Warre's is one of Portugal's most famous port houses, often producing a highly-regarded single vintage port. The house traces its origins back to 1670 when a company trading in wine, oil, fruit, fresh produce and wool was established in the region by two Englishmen, Burgoyne and Jackson. In 1729, William Warre arrived in Portugal and became a partner in the business, which by this point was known as Clark, Thorton and Warre. The 2007 vintage was widely declared, by up to 50 houses, and is considered an outstanding vintage

Pristine bottle purchased at auction in 2018. Served at cellar temperature with a classic steak au poivre with Cognac sauce and potato gratin, and it worked wonderfully. Still quite primary at 17 years of age, classic cedary Warre style, polished black fruit and warm spices, whiff of crème pâtissière, delicately sweet, firm structure from ripe tannins, fresh and well balanced, crushed red berries and cream on the finish. Classic stuff, lovely balance, long life. Ready to go, should last 40-50 years with relative ease.
