Villa Doria Barolo Riserva Vintage 1991

The dream of this estate dates back to the early 1900s when Daniele Lanzavecchia new he wanted to make wine. it took until 1959 when his son Pietro started Willa Doria having bought up vineyards on the Serralunga hills, a prime Brolo area. The wine is aged for a total of 5 years, in medium sized Slavonian oak barrels for around 20 months, and then the remaining time in concrete and steel tanks. An exceptionally powerful wine, it needs time to temper its considerable, tough tannins. The 1991 vintage was affected by frosts across Europe, but some good wines were made.
