Tignanello Antinori Vintage 2015

Antinori is a Tuscan based wine company that is one of the largest and most prominent in Italy. The Chianti Classico region forms the focus of operations, though the company has an estate in Umbria and international interests including Antica Napa Valley.

Tignanello is the most famous of all Antinori's wines. The vineyard of the same name extends to 57 hectares (140 acres) on limestone-rich soils on a southwest-facing slope 350-400m (1150-1300ft) above sea level.

This wine was the first in the region to combine the regional staple Sangiovese with non-traditional international varieties, and to omit white grapes – hence being classified as a Vino Tavola. It is now a Toscana IG

One hour decant.
Dark magenta color, medium body, with ample, mouthcoating acidity, soft, finely grained tannins, and a lengthy finish.

Notes of cedar, currants, tobacco, red fruit, and vegetal notes on the nose. Tastes of cherry, fig, red fruit, cassis, licorice, and chocolate.

This is an elegant, somewhat feminine wine, with great purity and refinement. A real beauty. A little bit restrained at first, but it continued to open up in the glass. Really enjoyable. I had this with pasta and bolognese sauce. A wonderful pairing.

I enjoyed this wine with my brother in law Yondan. It was from his cellar, and I’m glad he had the patience to sit on it until now. It is velvety smooth and balanced, and I believe is in prime condition now, but I see no reason why it shouldn’t drink well for several more years. Enjoy
