Deep garnet in colour with moderate concentration and clear bricking at the rim. The nose is pronounced and immediately expressive, showing raisin, fig, prune and dried plum, layered with caramel, almond, mocha and sweet baking spices — notably cinnamon and allspice — alongside hints of polished wood.
The palate is full-bodied with high alcohol, delivering warmth and a subtle spicy lift. Rich caramel and mocha notes dominate, supported by dried fruits and almond, with prune and polished wood emerging on the long finish. Despite the high residual sugar, the wine retains striking acidity, providing balance and preventing any sense of heaviness.
Fully mature and drinking at its plateau. Further development is unlikely, though it should hold at this level for many years. The wine’s strong showing despite suboptimal storage underlines both the resilience of the 1985 vintage and Taylor’s inherently long-lived style.
