Franco Cesari & Figli Barolo Riserva 1992

One of the lesser know Barolo producers and not to be confused with the famous Gerardo Cesari winery in Veneto (known for Amarone, where Franco Cesari was a prominent partner and family member). The 1992 vintage was not one of the greats and possibly the poorest of the 1990s

Cork nearly soaked through but comes out in one piece. Wine pours crystal clear off a moderate amount of sediment. Immediately, I can tell this wine is a winner on color alone- it looks mature, with an orangey rim, but has a firm ruby core.
The nose is gently fragrant, perfumed, and super complex. I smell roses and night jasmine, fresh red cherries, dried red cherries, church incense, fresh sawdust, pine boards. There isn't any of the typical aged nebbiolo fragrances of earth, leather, or tar. This is a soft, gentle, refined Barolo that emphasizes nebbiolo's potential for a light pretty character.
