Clos Rene Vintage 2000

Clos René is a Pomerol estate located in the western portion of the appelletion, in the Bordeaux region's so-called "right bank", northeast of the Dordogne river. Clos René is owned and operated by the Garde-Lasserre family who own several estates. The wine world waited with baited breath for the millennium vintage to be a great one. The weather largely played ball and it is a very good vintage.

Typical blend, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec. 75cl bottle. Abv 13%

Bottle condition, capsule good, label good, wine level in neck.

The nose was medium in expression, showing green bell pepper, dark fruit, and hints of brett and leather. It was inviting and slightly rustic. On the palate, the wine was more expressive, with a good fruit core but it remained somewhat non-descriptive overall. There was nothing flawed, just a bit subdued and lacking a standout trait. Still, a solid and enjoyable Pomerol.
