Chateau Rieussec Vintage 2009

 Château Rieussec, located in Fargues, in the Sauternes appellation in Bordeaux. It makes sweet wines from a classic Bordeaux blend of Semilion and Sauvignon Blanc, and was classified as a first growth in the 1855 classification of Sauternes and Barsac, alongside the finest sweet white wines the region. In the 18th Century, the estate was tended to by Carmelite monks before being confiscated in the French Revolution. After passing hands several times, it has now come under the ownership of Barons de Rothschild. 2009 vintage was excellent for the sweet wines of Bordeaux.

Brought this to Summer Hill for dinner to celebrate the 48th birthday of one of the lads. The lineup of the wines for the evening was very impressive.
Deep gold in colour with outstanding notes of apricot, candied orange peel, pineapples, honeycomb, and ripe peach. With further aeration, layers of saffron, marmalade, vanilla, toasted almonds, crème brûlée, and manuka honey evolved.
Slightly thick and concentrated with viscosity but not heavy or cloggy, the sweetness is generous and perfectly integrated, allowing the wine's complexity and precision to shine. The finish is extraordinarily long, lingering with notes of citrus, spice, caramelised fruits, and botrytis-driven nuances that seem to echo endlessly.
