The original estate was founded in 1689 as Enclos Rauzan and became Pichon Baron in 1694. It was splint into Pichon Baron and Pichon Comtesse in 1850 through inheritance. The 1979 vintage was thought of as a reasonably good year, but in our experience it has turned out better than expected in its senior years.

Typical blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot. 75cl bottle. Abv not stated.

Bottle condition, Capsule good, label good, wine level top shoulder

Tasting Note 13/07/2022 - 90 Points

Bottle in great condition, filled into the neck, cork intact. Medium garnet colour. Black currant, cherry, plum, light bell pepper, earth, tobacco, cedar and spices, with fully resolved tannin and good length. Upon opening, the acidity is very pronounced and the wine seems to be falling apart, but it pulls itself together and finds its balance with half an hour in a small decanter. Mature, medium-bodied, medium-complex, with average to good concentration. A few years past its peak, but still drinking well.
