Phélan Ségur's history dates back to the late 18th Century, when Tipperary wine merchant Bernard O'Phelan arrived in Bordeaux. After marrying into the renowned Guestier family, he purchased the Saint-Estèphe properties Clos de Garramey and Ségur de Cabanac in 1805 and 1810, creating Château Ségur de Garramey, and built the Palladian chateau which remains there today. The property took on its current name at the start of the 20th Century when it was changed from Château Ségur de Garramey to Château Phélan Ségur. 1969 was an average vintage, wines of a lighter style rather than classic clarets and now becoming quite rare.

Typical Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 75cl Bottle. Abv% not stated.

Bottle condition, capsule cracked, label complete bin soiled, wine level mid shoulder

Tasting Note 29/01/2024 - 92 Points

Although neither 1967 or 1969 bordellos were supposed to be all that splendid, I have good experience drinking both in the early 2020s.

This one, consumed in January, 2024, opened very well, but, as we have learned to expect from these very old wines, faded very quickly.
