The first vineyards at the estate were planted in the 17th Century when the land was still part of the neighboring Médoc estate, Chateau d'Arsac. In 1749 the estate became independent, trading hands from the influential Ségur family to the Copmartin family. Today the estate is owned by descendants of the Davis family who have continued to manage and modernize the château since 1921. The first of three great vintages from1988-1990.
Typical blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. 75cl bottle. Abv 12.5%
Bottle condition, capsule good, label good, wine level base of neck
Tasting Note 24/09/2025 - 92 Points
level lower neck, long good cork, colour still remarkably youthful, practically no brown, lovely fine, complex, elegant, floral (violets) Margaux nose, ethereal but not weak, palate also of medium weight but great finesse and class, good balance and length, a slight bitterness that gives freshness, 1988 and 1989 of Monbrison were recognized in their youth as extraordinary and they have lived up to expectations, they were made by a talented winemaker who unfortunately died much too young, these two vintages were his highlights, last bottle of 12 and all were hors classe for the vineyard’s classification, top wine at peak age
