Château Maucaillou is situated in the Moulis-en-Medoc appellation, just north of Margaux, in the Médoc region of northern Bordeaux. Maucaillou's Moulis vineyard is claimed to be the oldest in the Médoc, with records of title and ownership dating back to the 15th and 16th Centuries. The property's commercial history dates back to 1871, when the cellars were constructed by the Petit-Laroche négociant family. The wine estate expanded after its sale in 1929 to the well-known Dourthe family, also négociants. The Dourthes subsequently took the land under vine from just over two hectares (five acres) to 32 hectares (79 acres) by the 1980s. The estate currently stands at 87 hectares (215  acres) and remains in the Dourthe family. The 1986 vintage was very good for the region.

Bottle condition, capsule good, label good, wine level base of neck.
