About the Wine
Château La Tour de Mons is a Bordeaux winery and estate located in Margaux, known for its blended red wines made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It was rated a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur estate in the Cru Bourgeois classification and its various amendments until the category was shelved in 2008. The property is a single-block walled vineyard covering 58 hectares (143 acres) in the north of Margaux, close to the banks of the Gironde estuary.Château La Tour de Mons can trace its history back to the 13th Century when it was known as Tour de Marsac. In the early 17th century it came under the purview of the de Mons family through marriage, whence its modern name. The 1998 vintage was good for the region, particularly those with a higher percentage of Merlot.
Typical Blend, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc. 75cl bottle. Abv 12%
Bottle condition, capsule good, label good, wine level in neck
Tasting Note 22/03/2008 -88 Points
Decanted shortly. Started with nice typical Margaux-perfume in a bit austere frame. A bit thin initially but opened up and fleshed out with dark berries, ink and hints of liquorice while still being mainly elegant and refreshing. A satisfying, mature Margaux probably outshining several cru classés, especially in this vintage.Source cellartracker.
