Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse, Pauillac was rated as a fifth growth in the 1855 classification. Originally a single estate along with Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, a portion was sold to the Ducasse family in 1750. The 1975 vintage produced very tannic wines and there was a fear that the fruit would dry out before the tannins softened. However the few we have tasted have been a pleasant surprise.
Typical blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 75cl bottle. Abv% not stated.
Bottle condition, capsule good, label bin soiled, wine level base of neck.
Tasting note from 28.10.2024
Medium deep brick red.
Aromas of ground coffee, pencil shavings, chocolate fudge and horse stable.
Medium body.
Lively mellowed tannins. Blackcurrant acids and chocolate bitterness.
Palate of cassis, strawberry preserve, prune, cardamon and a hint of marzipan.
A fully mature, rather elegant and easy to like wine with fading yet sweet fruit, medium acidity and a nutty finish.
