Château de la Dauphine is located in the Fronsac region of Bordeaux. Production majors on red wines based on Merlot; much smaller amounts of rosé and tiny quantities of white wine are also made. It is one of the largest properties in the wider Libourne region, with a growing reputation. Between 1985 and 2000 the property was owned by the Moueix family of Libourne. In 2000 it was bought by the Halley family who made major investments. Current owners the Labrune family, took over in 2015, continuing the improvements and moving to biodynamic viticulture. The 1998 vintage favoured the right bank merlot dominated wines such as this.
Typical blend, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 75cl bottle. Abv 12%
Bottle condition, capsule good, label good, wine level in neck
Tasting Note 08/03/2020 - 89 Points
Colour shows distinct brick-orange hues. Notes of *Brettanomyces* dissipate after 45 minutes of breathing but are not bothersome. Moderately complex nose featuring lovely dried fruit aromas, such as cherry and plum, alongside hints of mint, cinnamon, and cardamom. Pleasantly smooth on the palate, though the style leans closer to Pinot Noir than Bordeaux; it is rather light-bodied. A lovely experience nonetheless.
