Château de Fonbel is a Saint Émilion Grand Cru red wine made mainly from Merlot which accounts for 70 percent of the vineyard. It is owned by Alain Vauthier from Chateau Ausone. The wine also includes some Cabernet Sauvignon (20 percent of plantings) and Petit Verdot(7 percent), and also a small amount (3 percent of vines) of Carmenere. The latter has begun to gain a toehold in Bordeaux after largely disappearing in the 20th Century. 2013 was not the best vintage, but some good wines were made..

Typical blend, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Carnenere. 75cl bottle. Abv 13%

Bottle condition, Capsule excellent, label excellent, wine level high fill.

Tasting Note 12/04/2014 - 87 Points

Herbs, strawberry and spice are in the nose, followed by a medium bodied, crisp, bright cherry finish. Blended from 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, the wine is aging in 30% new French oak. 86-88 Pt
