A traditionally made claret that has always taken time to come around. Certainly the case in 1975. Known for unyielding tannic wines that can be good today.
Typical blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. 75cl bottle. Abv% not stated.
Bottle condition, capsule good, label bin soiled, wine level top shoulder
Tasting Note 07/09/2023 -92 Points
This pours medium garnet with medium bricking. The nose is immediately expressive and appealing with green tobacco leaf, sundried tomato, dried dark cherry, sweet cedar, charcoal, and dried black currants. The palate is a touch thin, opening on red current, turning to medium minus tannin and medium plus acid. The finish closes quite gravelly and lightly green with a kiss of tobacco. All in all this is a very nice showing and a lovely old bottle. Quite an appealing wine to drink. Despite the mid-shoulder fill this is very alive and intact. The 1975 vintage plays a part in retaining notable tannin, but better managed than some other '75s I've had. Better than the 75 Haut Batailley consumed a few weeks back.
