From the Bairada region in central northern Portugal. Known for rich, deep coloured red wines from the Baga grape. The grape is sometimes compared to Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo as the small berries produce full bodies reds. Caves Alianca was bought by Grape Bacalhea in 2007
Tasting Profile
Appearance: Likely a pale garnet or tawny/brownish color with an amber rim
Aroma: Tertiary notes like leather, tobacco, cedar, and dried earth. You might also detect "old furniture" scents, forest floor, or a hint of balsamic.
Palate: The fierce tannins of the Baga grape will have softened over 40+ years. It will likely be lean and high in acidity, with delicate flavors of dried cherries or spice.
