80th Anniversary Wine | Wine from 1945

Strong, steady, and full of life—oak represents the beauty of lasting roots. An 80th birthday or anniversary is a towering achievement, and a vintage wine from that birth or wedding year is a heartfelt way to honour a life or love that has stood tall for generations.

In France, Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone faired particularly well, despite the vineyards having suffered through the war. For port it was an outstanding vintage with 12 shippers declaring it a vintage year.

70th Anniversary Wine | Wines from 1955

At 70, we celebrate a life rich in experience or a marriage of incredible endurance. A platinum anniversary wine from the year you said “I do” or a 70th birthday vintage from their birth year makes an extraordinary gift—elegant, rare, and unforgettable.

A very successful year for Bordeaux, particularly in the Medoc, Graves and for the sweet wines of Sauterne. Italy and Spain also produced great wines. Another outstanding vintage for Port with 26 shippers declaring it a vintage year.

60th Anniversary Wine | Wines from 1965

Diamond birthdays and anniversaries both celebrate a life well-lived and love well-kept. A bottle of wine from 60 years ago is a breathtaking gift—one that encapsulates history, family, and grace. For someone turning 60, or a couple celebrating this milestone, a diamond-year vintage is an unforgettable tribute.

Italy had a better vintage than other parts of Europe and some very good wines were made. 1965 was not declared a vintage year, but some good single quinta’s and colheitas were produced.

50th Anniversary Wine | Wine from 1975

The golden anniversary—and the golden birthday—are both once-in-a-lifetime occasions. For a 50th birthday, a vintage wine is a nod to half a century of life, laughter, and legacy. For couples, it marks a union that’s as precious and enduring as gold. Honour the milestone with a bottle as rare and radiant as the moment.

A year that’s mixed across France. Not great in Burgundy and in Bordeaux the wines were incredibly tannic giving rise to the worry that the fruit would dry out before the tannin softened. They have in fact turned out better than expected. White wines were very successful for Sauternes and Alsace. Italy was good particularly in Tuscany outside of Europe it was a lovely vintage in California. Port was declared a vintage year by 17 shippers and whilst the wines are not as concentrated as say 1977, good ports were made.

40th Anniversary Wine | Wine from 1985

The ruby anniversary or birthday shines with warmth and wisdom. A 40th birthday wine says, “You’re entering your prime with boldness,” while a ruby anniversary bottle celebrates four decades of shared life and love. Both call for a wine of richness, depth, and brilliance.

An unusually year in that it was pretty much outstanding across Europe and beyond. So one can be confident with well stored bottle drinking well. A great year for Port, with 26 shippers declaring it a vintage year.

30th Anniversary Wine | Wines from 1995

At 30, you’re hitting your stride—whether it’s years of marriage or life. A pearl represents beauty born through time and layers, just like a wine maturing gracefully in the bottle. Celebrate with a vintage wine from the year everything began, rich with sentiment and character.

A good year across Europe. Port wasn’t a vintage year, but as always there are some good single quinta’s and colheita;s around. Outside of Europe Australia was less good, but by no means a disaster.

25th Anniversary Wine | Wines from 2000

The silver anniversary and the silver birthday—both glitter with significance. A 25th birthday wine is a stunning keepsake for someone entering their prime, while a 25th anniversary bottle honours a love story still going strong. In either case, a vintage from that special year is a beautiful, personal gift.

The millennium delivered a vintage that some consider legendary. Bordeaux, particularly the Medoc, and Burgundy, in the Cote de Nuits, made great wines. Italy had success with great Barolo’s and Barbaresco’s. California, Australia and South Africa were less successful. In Portugal it was a declared vintage for Port with most major houses releasing wines, which will be drinking well for decades.

20th Anniversary Wine | Wines from 2005

Whether you’re toasting 20 years of marriage or a 20th birthday, this elegant milestone calls for something refined. China symbolises delicacy and durability—qualities echoed in a carefully aged bottle of wine from the year it all began. It’s a sophisticated gift for someone who’s truly come of age.

A great vintage for both red and white wines for most regions. The star regions in France are Bordeaux, including Sauternes, Burgundy the Loire and Rhone valleys.Italy, Spain and Germany all did well. Good Ports were made, but it was not a widely declared year, so look for single quinta’s and colheita’s. The new world was excellent across the board with only New Zealand below par.

18th Anniversary Wine | Wines from 2007

Turning 18 is more than just a birthday — it’s a rite of passage. Whether you’re celebrating a young adult stepping into the world or 18 years of shared life and love, a bottle of wine from that special year is the perfect way to honour the moment. It’s a gift with lasting value: something to open now, or to save for future celebrations. A vintage from their birth year or wedding year makes a timeless keepsake to mark this meaningful chapter.

A good vintage generaly with one or two exceptions. The growing season was mixed in Bordeaux, making the red wines patchy. The whites on the other hand were superb. The other French regions  all made great wines as did the rest of Europe including Port. In the New World Australia had some extreme drought and frost, making it a difficult vintage. Great wines in USA, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina and Chile.

10th Anniversary Wine | Wines from 2015

A decade together deserves a vintage that’s just as enduring. As tin represents preservation, a wine from your wedding year is the perfect way to celebrate how far you’ve come – strong, steady, and standing the test of time.

A great vintage across the world. All regions and counties excelled, with only one exception. Argentina was hit badly by El Nino and little great wine was made

One of the many things we love about vintage wine is its ability to surprise. Enjoying wines for vintages that have been written off as poor, and opening older vintages that have still tasted alive. How can we tell the drinkability of venerable bottles? The short answer is we can’t. Wine is a living, breathing entity that can be affected by storage conditions along the way.
