Beaujolais Nouveau Day will soon be upon us and this year it's going to be very good!
The 2022 vintage has been a great success for the Beaujolais region and the release of the Nouveau will be our first chance to taste it.
A little history: It began as an early release of wine drunk by the workers to celebrate the end of the harvest and slowly crept into the local bars and restaurants.Traditionally December the 15th was Nouveau Day up until 1951when it was brought forward to November 15th. It was again changed in 1985 to the third Thursday of the month, which means that this year it will be 17th November.
Back in the 1960's Georges Duboeuf saw potential in promoting it and started a race to see who could deliver the first bottle to Paris and this spread to England to see who could bring the first release to sell in Blighty. Now, sadly it is shipped a few days ahead so it can go on sale on Beaujolais Nouveau Day.
So what to expect when you drink it. Think bright juicy cherry & strawberry fruits with light tannins. Easy drinking and works well when served chilled. We find it particularly good along side some aged Comte.
Expect to find it in most independents and wine retailers from the 17th November.
